Doña Oxford is one of my favorite high-powered female musicians. In fact, she is one of my favorite musicians, male or female of any power. Her skill on the keyboard is unmatched. Her songs and lyrics always on point, and her vocals energize audiences like no one else can. And her live shows have been blowing the roof off of venues from Los Angeles to London.
Doña is an extraordinary, soulful and passionate singer, songwriter and keyboardist who rocks hard, sings the blues and puts it all together like she is “Gladys Knight meets the Rolling Stones”. As a keyboardist, Doña has played with a long list of legends including Keith Richards, Bob Weir, Levon Helm, Albert Lee, Buddy Guy. But what I love is her own shows with her own band. She has put together musicians and backup singers that can fill a stage and a hall and keep everyone dancing till they drop. And then she keeps them going.
I first saw the ‘Goddess of Soul’ one night at a west LA club and was sweating with fun and dancing when her set was over. I understood why Doña has been able to take her hard rockin’ and superbly practiced and precise 6-piece band throughout the world, touring over 17 countries and 48 States. Known for her extraordinary Boogie Woogie style piano playing, I agree with her many fans that, not only is she the Goddes of Sou, but also the ‘Queen of Boogie Woogie’. In addition to recording 4 albums of her own, she also found time to play on numerous Grammy and Handy winning albums, plus movie scores including the Eddie Murphy box office hit “Norbit”, the Martin Lawrence film “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” and Comedy Central’s Senior Skip Day”.
Doña Oxford is a power to be reckoned with, danced to, enjoyed and followed to stardom, and we are delighted to have on Music FridayLive!.
